Brandon Swihart in the local Dayton news -- UD/SCC Academy for Engineering

For Grade 12, Brandon is dual enrolled at both Bethel High School to graduate May, 2017 (he takes 1 class there, Physics), and also at the University of Dayton/Sinclair Community College Academy for Engineering. This program allows him to be part of the U.D. student body in every possible way while taking classes at SCC to complete general classes before transferring to UD to finish up for the remaining years.

So this year, due to the fact that he is still a high school student, the State will pay for all his classes at SCC thru the “College Credit Plus” program and then he will get academic scholarships (won’t cover all costs but will help greatly) to finish up at UD.

The UD/SCC event was on the local Dayton news due to the fact that it is a BRAND NEW program that is touted as “ground breaking, innovative, first in the nation with this depth, etc.” and UD and SCC are promoting it. All classes at SCC are structured to directly transfer up to UD.

For internationals, this is amazing due to the fact that the cost for classes at SCC are a mere fraction compared to tuition costs at UD.

(The Mechanical Engineering degree in the USA is 4 years.)

Currently SCC works with other public universities; however, UD is a private, considered “elite” (as stated on the one broadcast below) university costing at least double what the public universities in the USA cost.

So a collaboration between a public community college and a private “elite” university for students to work towards a 4 year degree in Engineering is a brand new endeavor.

The U.D. President told Brandon and the group that they have great FAVOR with him due to the fact that this is also the President’s first year at UD. J

The leaders from both institutions also said that Brandon as part of 4 current students are the “seed” of this program (the other 3 students already graduated high school unlike Brandon), and they expect a harvest out of it. J

(Brandon scored a 32 on his ACT during June which ranks in the top 2% of the USA and Ohio, thus they accepted him immediately into the program.)
