Good morning and welcome to “Wellness Wednesday” from your schools’ SEAC (Social Emotional Awareness Counselors) Team. Check out the newsfeed for today’s topic: Gratitude #bethellegacy #onebethel #wellnesswednesday #gratitude

We want to wish you a very happy Thanksgiving and while we know that celebrating may look a little different than in years past, we hope that your day is still filled with family and love.

In those life seasons when tough times seem to keep coming, it is important to stay focused on the things you have to be grateful for. Gratitude is simply defined as the state of being grateful. It involves expressing thanks or appreciation for something, from a gift to life itself. While having a mindset focused on gratitude does not change your circumstances, it can change  your mood and your perspective.

Below are a few benefits of practicing gratitude:

Gratitude involves recognition of the positive things in your life and how they affect you. This can range from acknowledging a beautiful flower you pass on the sidewalk to the feeling of thanks that comes from recovering from a serious illness.

If practicing gratitude is not a natural response for you, here are a few ways to get started:

  • gratitude exercises, such as journaling

  • paying attention to the little things in life, like the birds in the trees

  • telling someone you’re grateful for them or for something they did, even if it was a long time ago

  • doing something kind for someone in your life to express your gratitude

  • meditating on the positive aspects of your life

  • giving thanks through prayer
