We concluded National School Bus Safety Week with fact #5!

Did you know that a school bus, when fully loaded, can weigh up to 36,000 pounds? A school bus generally has a GVWR of around 29,000 pounds without fuel and cargo. Once you count in the diesel fuel and students with all of their items, it significantly increases the weight. It can take a distance of up to two football fields to safely stop a school bus that is fully loaded and going 55 MPH.

National School Bus Safety Week continues with fact #4!

Did you know that a new school bus costs, on average $120,000? A school bus can be specified to have many features, including air conditioning, wheelchair lifts, and even colored flooring. Districts and companies all over the United States specify their bus build to meet their needs and state requirements. Here in Bethel, we focus on specifying safety features such as additional warning lights and reflectors to make our buses as visible as possible. We also specify tinted windows and a white roof for better temperature control inside the bus for our students.

National School Bus Safety Week continues with fact #3!

Despite school buses being the safest vehicles on the road, it is still important to remember that there are strict rules in place to keep all students and bystanders safe. There is a "Danger Zone" around the bus that signifies the most dangerous positions for people outside of the bus when the bus starts to move. It is important to remember that no one should ever walk behind the bus or attempt to retrieve anything that falls underneath the bus. Always tell the bus driver so they can help you and maintain a safe bus stop. Help our drivers keep everyone safe and sound!

BES Party Volunteer Guidelines

As we get ready for upcoming classroom celebrations, we want to thank our families for helping make these events special! To ensure a safe and smooth experience for all, please note the following guidelines for party volunteers:

- No younger siblings may attend with volunteers.

- Parents may not sign out additional siblings past 3pm on party days.

- All volunteers must bring a valid photo ID to the office to sign in through the RAPTOR system before volunteering. If you’ve not been entered into the RAPTOR system yet this school year, please come in PRIOR to the day of the party to save time.

- Teachers are limited to a maximum of 3 parent volunteers per classroom.

- Only parents who have been scheduled in advance by the teacher may volunteer—please do not show up on the day of the party without approval.

Thank you for supporting our students while helping us keep celebrations safe and fun for everyone! Go Bees!

National School Bus Safety Week continues with fact #2!

Did you know that a school bus is not just the color yellow? The technical color of a school bus is National School Bus Yellow. This specific hue of yellow was chosen in 1939 by a group of experts, organized by Dr. Frank W. Cyr, "The father of the yellow school bus", due to the brain's ability to recognize it faster than any other color or specific shade of yellow or color. The research was conducted on a $5,000 grant from the Rockefeller Foundation.

Remote Learning Day for MS & HS November 4th due to election polling
This week is National School Bus Safety Week and we are going to celebrate with some fun facts throughout the week!

Did you know a school bus is over 70 times safer than any passenger vehicle on the road? Due to its size, and elevated floor height, compartmentalization is used to keep its passengers safe instead of a seatbelt. School bus construction standards have evolved over time, but the same basic principles have remained, which is why it continues to transport over 27 million children safely to school each day in the United States.
